The Coup
The Coup is a turn-based strategy game where clandestine actions, territorial stability, and keeping your cities supplied matter as much as the advance of your armies. Each map is shaped by a war between three factions, creating unstable and uneven balances of power, each with its own weaknesses:
- An unstable territory can quickly descend into riots, or become fertile ground for enemy-backed insurrections.
- Each map has a limited population. Every soldier you recruit, every civilian who dies of famine, and every rioter you are forced to kill means one fewer peasant or urban worker to produce food or pay taxes.
- Faction leaders can serve as commanders and governors, but also as clandestine agents able to sabotage, destabilize, and foment insurrections behind enemy lines.
Each faction has its own roster of leaders, with distinct abilities and character traits; its own starting positions and constraints; and its own faction mechanics, from training leaders through an academy to arbitrating between internal factions. Together, these differences make for the equivalent of nine distinct campaigns.
Depending on the faction and difficulty level, a typical game lasts between 45 minutes and 3 hours, and you can save and resume at any time.
The game also supports 2- and 3- player multiplayer.
